Ultraframe is a UK roof manufacturer, not an installer. It makes the Livinroof, Ultraroof, glass roofs and roof lanterns in Clitheroe, Lancashire, and sells them through independent installers, so the roof you get is only as good as the company that fits it. In this Ultraframe review we rate it 7.6 out of 10: strong engineering and approvals, weaker on the route to your warranty. It suits homeowners who want a manufacturer-engineered roof and are prepared to check the installer and the guarantee papers before signing.

We read Ultraframe’s warranty, approvals and product pages, its Companies House record and its public Trustpilot reviews on 19 October 2026. We have not tested an Ultraframe roof ourselves, so this is a review of the manufacturer, its products on paper and its route to market. For one product in depth, see our LivinROOF review, and for the wider market see our conservatory roofs hub.

Key Takeaways
  • Ultraframe makes the roof and an installer sells it - incorporated in 1983 at Clitheroe, it refers homeowners to Ultra Installers, a scheme it has run since 2004
  • The 10-year warranty is issued to the purchaser - on Livinroof, Ultraroof and glass roofs, but the purchaser is usually your installer, so ask how those 10 years reach you
  • U-value 0.15 as standard - on Livinroof and Ultraroof, with a 0.12 option, and both were fire tested as complete assembled roofs in 2017
  • No published prices - Ultraframe leaves pricing to its installers and suggests talking to about 3 companies before you choose
  • BBA approval covers 4 named documents, not every roof - the Glass Roof, Quantal, the Ultrapanel used in Ultraroof, and the factory

What Is Ultraframe?

Ultraframe is a Lancashire manufacturer of conservatory and extension roof systems. Ultraframe (UK) Limited, Companies House number 01765701, was incorporated on 31 October 1983 and is based on Salthill Road in Clitheroe. It designs and makes the roof; independent installers survey, sell and fit it.

Companies House shows the business has traded under earlier names, as Ultra Frame Limited and then Ultraframe Public Limited Company, before taking its current name in 1997. It is controlled through Latium Roofing Systems Limited, part of the Latium group. Ultraframe says more than 2,000,000 of its roofs have been installed in the UK, which is its own figure rather than one we can check.

The split between maker and installer matters more than anything else in this review. Ultraframe engineers each roof and supplies the parts, but your contract, your quote and in most cases your guarantee are with the installer. The company also sells hup!, a modular extension system, which is outside the scope of this review.

Ultraframe Roof Systems: Which Is Which?

Ultraframe sells glazed, hybrid and tiled roofs, which makes it the only maker in this market that covers all three. Livinroof is the hybrid of solid panels and glass, Ultraroof is the lightweight tiled roof, and the Glass Roof, Quantal and Ultrasky are glazed systems for conservatories, orangeries and lanterns.

SystemWhat it isBest for
LivinroofHybrid solid roof: grey aluminium or insulated panels with glass panels placed where you want lightKeeping some daylight without an all-glass roof. See our LivinROOF review
UltraroofLightweight tiled roof, with optional full-length glazing panels or roof windowsA tiled look, including long spans over bi-fold or sliding doors

Livinroof vs Ultraroof

These are the two solid roofs most homeowners compare. Livinroof uses grey panels with glass set into them; Ultraroof uses lightweight tiles in three colours or a metal finish. Both list a U-value of 0.15 as standard with a 0.12 option, and both were fire tested as complete assembled roofs in 2017. Ultraframe gives Livinroof a weight of 31 kg per square metre and Ultraroof 38 kg, and says Ultraroof can span up to 4 m over bi-fold or sliding doors with no tie bar. Choose Livinroof for daylight and a modern panel finish, or Ultraroof if you want tiles that match the house.

How to Buy an Ultraframe Roof and What It Costs

You buy an Ultraframe roof through an Ultra Installer, not from Ultraframe. Its website takes your postcode and passes you to a local installer, who surveys, quotes, supplies and fits the roof. Ultraframe publishes no prices: each installer sets its own, so the only reliable figure is a written quote.

Ultraframe has run its installer scheme since 2004. It says members pass an initial assessment and follow-up assessments while they belong, and each carries a unique ID number and QR code you can check. Trade customers use a separate portal, and we found no route for a homeowner to buy direct. Ultraframe’s own advice is to speak to about three companies before choosing.

For sourced price ranges across the market, see our guides to conservatory roof replacement costs and tiled conservatory roof costs. A quote for an Ultraframe roof should be comparable with those, with the difference explained by the system, the glazing and the installer.

Before you accept a quote

Get at least three quotes. Ask each installer for the Ultra Installer ID you can check, the roof design for your layout, who applies for Building Control, and copies of the guarantee papers you will receive.

Ultraframe Warranty: What the 10 Years Covers and Who Owes It

Ultraframe gives 10 years on its main roof systems, 5 years on painted, foiled and powder-coated items, and 1 year on electrical items, with no cover for colour fade. The catch is who receives it: Ultraframe issues the warranty to the purchaser of the product, and in most cases that is your installer.

Warranty periodWhat it covers, per Ultraframe
10 yearsLivinroof, Ultraroof, Glass Roof, Quantal, Ultrasky Roof, lantern and skylight, Flat Roof, Veranda, glass and polycarbonate
5 yearsPainted, foiled and powder-coated items
1 yearElectrical items
Not coveredColour fade or change

The warranty also depends on the roof being installed to Ultraframe’s recommendations and guidance. Because the installer is usually the purchaser, a homeowner relies on that installer to pass the warranty on and to be around to act on it. Ultraframe’s own advice to homeowners is to check the terms of any guarantee and to get a guarantee from the manufacturer.

Ultraframe says its Ultra Installers are required to offer an insurance-backed guarantee, which is the protection that matters if an installer stops trading. In a reply to a customer review it also says this is difficult for it to monitor. Ask for the insurance-backed guarantee policy, with the insurer’s name, before you pay a deposit.

Get the guarantee papers in your name

Before work starts, ask who is named on the manufacturer warranty, whether it is registered with Ultraframe in your name, and for the insurance-backed guarantee policy and insurer. If the installer cannot show you these, keep looking.

Ultraframe Certifications and Approvals Explained

Ultraframe holds more third-party approvals than most roof makers, but each covers something specific. BBA approval applies to four named documents, the fire tests cover two roofs, and the Building Control pre-approvals make sign-off easier without guaranteeing it. Here is what each one means for your roof.

  • BBA: Ultraframe lists four BBA documents: the Glass Roof, the Quantal Glass Roof, Ultrapanel (the panel technology used in Ultraroof and the Flat Roof) and the factory. Livinroof and Ultraroof are not named BBA documents in their own right.
  • Fire tests: Livinroof and Ultraroof were tested as fully assembled roofs by Warringtonfire in 2017, to the B-roof classification. Ultraframe says it is the only solid roof maker supplying the UK with fire certificates for the whole assembled roof.
  • Building Control pre-approval: MFA and Stroma Building Control have accredited Livinroof and Ultraroof among others, which gives your installer a recognised route to sign-off.
  • Quality and thermal checks: ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and Elmhurst Energy modelling of condensation risk and the claimed U-values.
  • Memberships: the Glass and Glazing Federation and CHAS.

Ultraframe also says most of its systems carry a 25-year BBA life-expectancy certificate. That is broader than its own approvals page, so treat it as the manufacturer’s claim and ask which document covers the roof you are buying. Read more in our guide to conservatory roof U-values.

What a solid replacement roof means for Building Control

Replacing a glass or polycarbonate roof with a solid or tiled one brings the work under Building Regulations, and Ultraframe says the same. A new roof element in an existing home must meet a U-value of 0.15 under Part L, which both Livinroof and Ultraroof list as standard. Keep the completion certificate, because a buyer’s solicitor will ask for it when you sell. Our guide to planning permission and Building Control for a roof replacement covers the process.

What Customers Say About Ultraframe

Ultraframe’s Trustpilot profile holds 116 reviews, but many come from installers rating its training, technical support and site support rather than homeowners rating a fitted roof. Homeowners made up roughly 40% of the reviews we read, so we do not quote the overall score as a measure of the roof.

Among the homeowner reviews on its Trustpilot profile, praise centres on the finished look, tidy installers and helpful aftercare from Ultraframe’s homeowner support team. The complaints follow a pattern: leaks that appear after the installer has gone, installers who stopped trading without leaving guarantee or Building Control paperwork, and a recommended installer who abandoned a project. Most of the roof complaints are about the installer and the guarantee route rather than the product. Ultraframe replies to its negative reviews, and in one reply it advised a staged first payment of about 15 to 20% of the contract. Our guide to common conservatory roof problems explains what to check if a new roof leaks.

Ultraframe vs Guardian, Equinox and SupaLite

Ultraframe is the broadest of the four big UK roof makers: it sells glazed, hybrid and tiled roofs, while Guardian, Equinox and SupaLite concentrate on solid tiled systems. All four sell through independent installers, so the installer you choose shapes the result as much as the brand on the roof.

Ultraframe Strengths and Weaknesses

Ultraframe’s strength is engineering backed by documents: whole-roof fire tests, a BBA-approved factory and Building Control pre-approvals. Its weakness is the distance between the maker and the homeowner, because the warranty, the price and the quality of the fit all run through an installer Ultraframe does not control.

What we like
✓Livinroof and Ultraroof fire tested as complete assembled roofs
✓U-value 0.15 as standard with a 0.12 option
✓The only maker here with glazed, hybrid and tiled roofs
✓Installer scheme since 2004 with checkable ID numbers
✓MFA and Stroma Building Control pre-approvals for its solid roofs
Watch out for
✗The 10-year warranty is issued to the purchaser, usually the installer
✗No published prices, so value is only clear once you hold quotes
✗Insurance-backed guarantees are required of installers but hard to monitor, by Ultraframe’s own account
✗Trustpilot mixes installer and homeowner reviews, so the score says little about the roof

Who Is Ultraframe Best For?

Ultraframe is best for homeowners who want a choice of roof style from one engineered system and will vet the installer properly. If you want a tiled roof only, compare it with the tiled specialists; if you want daylight, Livinroof is the Ultraframe roof to look at.

  • Choose Ultraframe if you want glazed, hybrid or tiled options, or a tiled roof with a long span over bi-fold doors, and you will check the installer’s ID and guarantee papers.
  • Choose Livinroof over Ultraroof if daylight matters more than a tiled look. Our LivinROOF review goes into the panel and glass design.
  • Compare Guardian, Equinox or SupaLite if you have settled on a tiled roof and want a wider pool of installers to quote. Our list of the best conservatory roof companies compares them.

Questions to Ask Your Ultraframe Installer

Six questions separate a safe Ultraframe purchase from a risky one. Ask them before you pay a deposit, and get the answers in writing.

  1. Who is named on the Ultraframe warranty, and is it registered in my name?
  2. What happens to my guarantee if you stop trading?
  3. Which insurer backs your insurance-backed guarantee, and can I see the policy?
  4. What is your Ultra Installer ID, so I can check it with Ultraframe?
  5. Who applies for Building Control, and will I receive the completion certificate?
  6. How are payments staged, and can I speak to customers from the last 12 months?

Our Verdict

We rate Ultraframe 7.6 out of 10. It is a well-engineered roof system with more approvals than most rivals, held back by a sales model that puts your warranty, your price and your fitting quality in an installer’s hands. Buy it from a vetted installer who gives you the guarantee papers in your name.

Ultraframe makes sense if you want one engineered system with a choice of glass, hybrid or tile, and you treat the installer as the real purchase. If you have settled on tiles, read our Guardian Warm Roof review and Equinox roof review before you choose, and compare at least three quotes.

FAQs

Ultraframe (UK) Limited is based on Salthill Road in Clitheroe, Lancashire, and was incorporated on 31 October 1983. Companies House shows it is controlled through Latium Roofing Systems Limited, part of the Latium group. Ultraframe makes the roof systems, and independent installers sell and fit them.

No. Its website passes you to a local Ultra Installer, who surveys, prices, supplies and fits the roof. Ultraframe publishes no prices because each installer sets its own, and trade customers use a separate portal. Ultraframe suggests speaking to about three companies before you choose.

Ultraframe lists 10 years on Livinroof, Ultraroof, Glass Roof, Quantal and Ultrasky roofs, 5 years on painted and powder-coated items and 1 year on electrics, with no cover for colour fade. The warranty is issued to the purchaser, usually your installer, so ask how it reaches you in writing.

Ultraroof is Ultraframe’s lightweight tiled roof, listed at a U-value of 0.15 with a 0.12 option, and fire tested as a complete assembled roof in 2017. How well it works for you depends as much on the installer as the product, so compare about three quotes and ask for the Building Control certificate.

Livinroof is a hybrid solid roof of grey panels with glass placed where you want light. Ultraroof is a lightweight tiled roof with optional full-length glazing panels or roof windows. Both list a U-value of 0.15 as standard. Our LivinROOF review covers the panel and glass design in more depth.

Yes. Replacing a glass or polycarbonate roof with a solid or tiled one brings the work under Building Regulations, and Ultraframe says the same. Part L sets a U-value of 0.15 for a new roof element, which Livinroof and Ultraroof meet as standard. Keep the completion certificate for when you sell.
