Replacing a conservatory roof transforms a space that is too hot in summer and too cold in winter into a usable room – and it costs a fraction of a full rebuild. This calculator estimates your replacement cost by roof type, conservatory size, and region, using the same verified 2026 price data as our full cost guide.
- Solid tiled roofs cost £6,100 to £15,000 - the premium option that turns a conservatory into a year-round room with proper insulation
- Glass replacements run £3,300 to £9,500 - self-cleaning double glazed units at £350 to £550 per square metre installed
- Polycarbonate is the budget route at £2,000 to £6,500 - the cheapest fix but the poorest insulator of the three
- Building regs sign-off adds £250 to £400 - solid roof conversions legally require it, and scaffolding can add another £400 to £800

How to Use This Calculator
Pick the roof type you are considering, your conservatory’s approximate size, and your region. Add building regulations sign-off if you are going solid – it is a legal requirement for tiled conversions – plus scaffolding or lighting if they apply. The estimate updates as you change each option.
Which Conservatory Roof Type Should You Choose?
Polycarbonate is the cheapest at £200 to £350 per square metre but does little for temperature control. Glass, at £350 to £550 per square metre, roughly doubles the thermal performance and looks far better. Solid tiled roofs cost £650 to £1,200 per square metre but retain heat like a normal extension roof – most owners who convert say the room finally gets used in January. Our full conservatory roof replacement cost guide breaks down every option in detail.
If heat loss is your main concern, the U-value is the number that matters – see our guide to conservatory roof U-values for how each roof type performs. A solid conversion can also lift your home’s value; our analysis of whether a new conservatory roof adds value covers the evidence.
What Else Affects the Price?
Size and shape drive most of the variance – a P-shaped or Victorian roof has more complex lines than a rectangular lean-to, and larger spans need structural checks. Location matters too: London and the South East run 10% to 20% above the national average, while Wales and the North East come in below it. Most replacements take 2 to 5 days, and plastering, lighting, or a roof lantern at £800 to £2,000 push the total up further. Check the roof replacement timeline guide for how the work unfolds.
