SupaLite and Guardian are two of the best-known tiled conservatory roof brands in the UK, but choosing between them is harder than it should be. SupaLite publishes pricing from £10,000 + VAT for 10m2; Guardian requires a quote for every project. Both achieve identical U-values of 0.15 W/m2K, so the decision comes down to warranty, transparency, installer quality, and specific features.

SupaLite vs Guardian: Head-to-Head Comparison

Both SupaLite and Guardian convert old polycarbonate or glass conservatory roofs into insulated, tiled roofs that look like a natural extension of your house. The engineering differences are relatively minor – both use lightweight structures designed to work with existing conservatory frames – but there are meaningful differences in transparency, warranty, and features.

Whichever brand you choose, replacing a glazed or polycarbonate roof with a solid tiled one needs Building Regulations approval in England. Confirm who submits the application and that it is written into your quote.

Pricing: SupaLite vs Guardian

Of the brands compared here, SupaLite is the only one to publish pricing, which gives homeowners a genuine starting point for budgeting. Guardian’s quote-only approach means you cannot compare costs without getting installers round to survey your conservatory first.

SupaLite: Published from £10,000 + VAT for a 10m2 conservatory roof, without new frames (SupaLite’s cost page, read 6 October 2026). The price scales with roof area, so a typical 4x4m Victorian conservatory (approximately 17m2) will cost materially more than the 10m2 figure. SupaLite says it works through independent installers and cannot set or guarantee exact prices, so a written quote for your own roof is the only reliable number.

Guardian: All pricing is quote-only through their approved installer network. Guardian says every roof is bespoke, so we cannot give a verified price. What a quote includes (plastering, electrics, building control) varies by installer, so ask for it itemised.

We cannot verify that either brand is cheaper. The installed price depends heavily on your local installer’s labour rates and margins. Thermal Performance and Build Quality

Both systems achieve a U-value of 0.15 W/m2K as standard, which is six times more insulating than a typical polycarbonate roof (1.0-1.5 W/m2K). At this level, the thermal performance difference between the two brands is negligible – both will transform a cold conservatory into a year-round room.

SupaLite uses a proprietary aluminium frame system with their ExtraLight tiles, designed to be as lightweight as possible while maintaining structural integrity. The enhanced specification achieves 0.12 W/m2K. SupaLite emphasises speed and says a typical 4m x 4m Edwardian-style conservatory takes three to four days.

Guardian uses an aluminium sub-frame with a timber inner frame, topped with standard lightweight concrete tiles. The system is designed as a complete replacement structure that sits on your existing conservatory walls. Guardian says its roof is approved by LABC and HBC and that your Certified Installer handles the building control application.

In practical terms, you will not notice a thermal difference between the two. The bigger variable is installation quality – a poorly fitted roof from either brand will underperform a well-fitted one.

Warranty Comparison

Warranty is the clearest differentiator between SupaLite and Guardian, and it is the area where Guardian has a decisive advantage. Guardian publishes a dual warranty: 10 years on the product and 10 years on workmanship. SupaLite publishes a 10-year product guarantee, but we could not find the installer guarantee terms it mentions published.

This matters because a tiled conservatory roof is a structural modification to your home. If something goes wrong – a leak, structural movement, tile failure – you need to know who is liable and for how long. Guardian’s published warranty gives homeowners a clear recourse on both the product and the workmanship. With SupaLite, ask your installer for the workmanship terms in writing.

Important caveat: Both warranties only apply when the roof is installed by an approved installer. If you use a non-approved installer (even if they use the branded materials), the manufacturer warranty is void. Always check that your installer is listed on the brand’s approved network.

Guardian’s Trustpilot presence is small, which is worth noting for a purchase of this size. Guardian has 21 reviews with a 3.3/5 rating, and we hold no verified Trustpilot score for SupaLite. For context, Ultraframe’s profile is mostly installer and trade reviews, so we don’t quote its score.

Low manufacturer-level review counts reflect how the industry works – homeowners deal with local installers, not the manufacturers directly. Most reviews sit on individual installer profiles rather than the brand pages. This means you should check your specific installer’s reviews (Google, Checkatrade, TrustATrader) rather than relying on the manufacturer’s score.

Guardian’s 3.3/5 rating from 21 reviews is a small sample that could easily be skewed by a few poor experiences. It is not necessarily representative of the product quality, but it is enough to flag that you should thoroughly vet your chosen Guardian installer before committing.

VELUX Roof Windows: Guardian’s Partnership

Guardian describes its partnership with VELUX as exclusive. Guardian-approved installers can integrate VELUX roof windows into the tiled roof structure, designed to fit the Guardian frame system. Other brands also offer roof windows, but we have not verified whether any has a comparable manufacturer partnership.

This matters because one of the main drawbacks of any solid roof is losing natural light. A VELUX window lets light flood into a specific area (typically over the dining table or seating area) while the surrounding solid tiles provide insulation. If maintaining natural light is important to you, Guardian’s VELUX partnership is a genuine advantage.

However, VELUX windows add £800-£2,000 per window to the project cost. If you are on a tight budget and happy with LED downlights (£300-£600 total), the VELUX option may not justify choosing Guardian over a cheaper alternative.

Alternative: Ultraframe Ultraroof

If neither SupaLite nor Guardian feels right, Ultraframe’s Ultraroof is another widely available system, and Ultraframe quotes the same 0.15 W/m2K U-value.

Ultraframe says the Ultraroof system offers a 4-metre unsupported span, which means no internal tie bars for most conservatory sizes, and that the roof is watertight within 6 hours.

Which Should You Choose?

The right choice depends on what matters most to you. Both SupaLite and Guardian will give you a well-insulated, tiled conservatory roof that lasts decades – the differences are around the edges rather than in core performance.
