As too few news outlets cover the ongoing tragedies in Somalia, evidence presents a modern society which may have become immune to high-volume loses of human life. 29,000 Somali children have died in the last 90 days from lack of food and water, and yet a peek into social media, news, and blog posts, along with local coffee-house banter, shows little regard for the events in Africa. The number of dead is intense and horrifying, yet the top story on CNN focuses on finances. Regardless of the politics behind the deaths in Somalia (and the event reeks of international drama), there are 29,000 dead children in a world where starvation is avoidable. Maybe if we make 29,000 dead children more visually commanding, the world will take notice.
